Falls Police have identified the victim of a fatal shooting this morning as 22-year-old Lelton Kemp.
Officers responded to a call of “shots fired” at an apartment in the Monteagle Ridge housing development, 4600 Hyde Park Blvd., just after 2 a.m. Thursday and found Kemp, 1737 Lafayette Ave., lying on the ground outside of Apartment 162, according to Falls Police Detective Captain William Thomson.
“He had a gunshot wound to the chest that exited through his back,” Thomson said.
Kemp was rushed to Niagara Falls Memorial Medical Center, where his condition was stabilized. Kemp was then in the process of being transferred by ambulance to the Erie County Medical Center when he began to experience difficulties and paramedics returned to Memorial.
When they arrived, Kemp was declared dead.
Investigators said Kemp appeared to have been shot by a large caliber handgun. A search for the suspects is continuing this evening.
The resident of the apartment reportedly called Kemp and a relative after she had become engaged in a dispute with the suspect in the murder. Kemp and the woman arrived at the apartment and he reportedly became involved in argument.
At that point, Thomson said, Kemp was shot and the suspect fled.
This is the city's second homicide of 2010.
