WEDNESDAY: Cole may be subject of ethics inquiry (5:38 p.m.)

A female intern in the state Legislature has been fired and Assemblyman Michael Cole, R-Alden, may be the subject of a related inquiry, according to published reports.

The New York Post reported on Wednesday that Cole could face sanctions over fraternization that was alleged to have occurred during a Sabres-watching party at an Albany bar.

Cole also walked the intern to her apartment, though there are no charges of sexual misconduct, the Post reported.

Cole is married and has two children.

He did not return two calls seeking comment.

Assemblyman Sam Hoyt, D-Buffalo, told Greater Niagara Newspapers on Wednesday that he sent about 10 e-mails to various Buffalo natives and the Western New York delegation inviting them to Legends, an Albany restaurant and bar, to watch the Buffalo Sabres-New York Islanders game on Monday last week.

Cole was at the party, but Hoyt said he didn’t see anyone fitting the description of a female intern.

He said he also didn’t witness anything inappropriate.

“It was a public event where a bunch of people were watching a Sabres game,” Hoyt said.

Do you think it’s a good idea to mothball abandoned structures in the Falls rather than tear them down?

Yes. There is a lot of architectural gems in this city that should be saved.
No. Most of these buildings are in poor shape — we need to stop living in the past.
Confused. What good does it do to mothball buildings when no one’s really investing in the city?
