NIAGARA FALLS —
A celebration to kick off the fourth annual American Cancer Society Relay For Life event in Niagara Falls will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. today at the Hard Rock Cafe, 333 Prospect St.
The relay partners the American Cancer Society with the Niagara Falls City School District to provide money for research and patient outreach in the Western New York community. Participants join or create teams to help raise money to fund research at hospitals and schools like Roswell Park Cancer Institute and University at Buffalo.
“This is basically a save-the-date event,” Susan Ross, a co-chair of this year’s event, said. “We want to get people to start thinking about it, to start thinking of joining teams. It’s a fun event for people to come out and enjoy themselves.”
Ross said staff will be on hand to process interested parties and facilitate the team creation process. And if individuals don’t have a team to join, Ross said an existing team will take them in.
This year’s Relay For Life is scheduled for 3-10 p.m. May 18, at Sal Maglie Stadium on Hyde Park Boulevard.
