NIAGARA FALLS —
A dog and cat rescued by a Niagara Falls couple have are featured in a page-a-day animal calendar.
The dog, a mastiff named Izzy, and the calico cat, named Calli, belong to Gloria and Phillip Strangis.
For the date of Jan. 31 in “365 Cats," there is a picture of Calli about to lick Izzy’s face. Strangis said her husband Phillip captured the moment when the two animals were snuggled up in a recliner with Strangis.
Strangis submitted the photo to the calendar company, from which she had previously purchased dog and cat calendars.
Both animals have found a loving home after misfortune early in their lives. Strangis took Calli in after her sister found the stray cat on her property. Strangis has owned Calli for 6 years, but is unsure of exactly how old she is. Izzy, now 3, was adopted at around 4 months old from a pound in Buffalo after being found tied to a pole in a basement.
Though the animals are buddies, Strangis said there’s no question who’s in charge between them.
“The dog weighs 90 pounds, but the cat runs the house,” she said, laughing. “It’s very cute.”
