The Niagara-Wheatfield Board of Education voted unanimously Wednesday to approve an after-school enrichment program and formally voted to approve several personnel issues.
The Twilight Program, designed for high school-aged students, is set to run from 2:30-6:30 p.m. and would provide an alternative learning environment for students, said Superintendent Carl Militello. The students, who mostly require extra assistance, will be able to do so while gaining credits towards their diploma.
“It is a program for kids at risk,” Militello said, “they will attend school in the afternoon and it allows them to pick up extra credits.”
He said the program is something that is new across the state and the students would attend the program following a regular school day.
In another matter, the board voted to approve the salaries, appointments and resignations of 118 district employees.
The salary approvals included 13 winter athletics coaches, 33 per diem substitute teachers and 16 mentor teachers among others.
“These positions and salaries were all approved according to contract guidelines,” Militello said.
He added that the approval of the salaries and positions were a formality.
The board meets again at 7 p.m. Oct. 21 at the Senior High School Adult Learning Center.
