LEWISTON: ‘Rich’ history to be discussed

The Rich family is coming “back” to visit Lewiston all the way from Indiana at 3 p.m. Friday. They want to share the story of their ancestors that are buried in the Village Cemetery, also known as the Marble Orchard (adjacent to the First Presbyterian Church, 505 Cayuga St.)

Last year, as part of the Cemetery: Project Restoration, the Rich family plot was completely restored to its original condition. The stone work, done by artisan stone mason, Joe Niccola and crew, was made possible with a grant from state Assemblywoman Francine DelMonte.

“The finished stone wall restored not only the Rich family site, but was an integral part of the infrastructure of the village cemetery,” said Eva Nicklas of the Lewiston Council on the Arts.

The project is a collaboration of civic groups that include the Village of Lewiston, Lewiston Council on the Arts, the Historical Association of Lewiston, the Lewiston Garden Club and an army of dedicated volunteers.

Everyone, especially history buffs, is invited to come and hear some new tales (and maybe even a scandal or two) from the Rich family descendants.
