Niagara Gazette — The families of the Niagara University's ACHA Division 1 men's hockey team are sponsoring a game dedicated to a young Amherst man battling a lethal form of Muscular Dystrophy.

The team, which plays at 8 p.m. Friday, will dedicate their game to Suneel Ram, a 15-year-old freshman at St. Joseph's Collegiate Institute who is afflicted with Duchennes Muscular Dystrophy.

Ram, a sports announcer at his school and avid hockey fan, is the namesake for Suneel's Light, a foundation started by his mother, Dr. Neera Manning, to help find a cure for his disease, which targets young boys. On the average, those afflicted succumb to the disease by their early twenties.

Admission to the game, being held at Niagara University's Dwyer Arena, is free. All proceeds from the game's 50/50 split ticket sale will be donated to the foundation.

In addition, the foundation will be hosting "Suneel's Celebrity Gala" on February 1 at Statler City in Buffalo. That event will feature eight local celebrities who are currently in training for a dance competition, similar to the television show "Dancing with the Stars."
