Robber facing up to 15 years in prison

Niagara Gazette — LOCKPORT — A Falls man, who pleaded guilty to a rash of robberies of city convenience stores, could spend the next 15 years behind bars.

Niagara County Court Judge Sara Sheldon Farkas sentenced Paul Schubert to two concurrent eight year prison terms for his guilty plea to a pair of those robberies. The judge then tacked on an additional 2 1/3 to 7 year sentence for a prior guilty plea in a Falls burglary case.

Schubert, 21, was in a judicial diversion program for his burglary conviction at the time he committed the convenience store robberies.

He was originally charged with first- and second-degree robbery, second-degree attempted robbery, second-degree menacing and fourth-degree grand larceny for three hold-ups that took place between Sept. 5 and 12. He could have faced up to 30 years behind bars if he had been convicted on those charges.

Instead, Schubert agreed to plead guilty to charges of attempted first-degree robbery and second-degree robbery in a deal with prosecutors.

As part of the deal, prosecutors also agreed to drop charges in another Falls convenience store robbery and similar hold-ups in the Town of Wheatfield and North Tonawanda.

Schubert admitted that he used a knife to hold-up a 7-Eleven store in the 6800 block of Buffalo Avenue. He also admitted that held-up a 7-Eleven store in the 7600 block of Buffalo Avenue, with an accomplice that he did not name.
