Man found living without heat, water

Falls police were called to a home in the 1500 block of Ontario Avenue Sunday after receiving reports of a man living there without heat.

Officers said when they entered the home it had no heat and was about 40 degrees. The resident, a 62-year-old man, was wearing several layers of clothing and appeared to be doing well, the report said.

The resident said he’d been living without heat since the beginning of December when his furnace broke. The man said it needs to be replaced but he can’t afford it. He told officers he had submitted paperwork to HEAP several weeks ago but other than a visit from two men a few weeks ago, has not heard anything back.

Officers noted that the home had no running water as the pipes had froze. Officers also said there is electricity in the home and the room where the man sleeps has two space heaters and was about 65 degrees.

The resident was checked out by a Rural Metro crew and appeared to be in good health, the report noted.

He said two women and a man were sitting at a table listening to music and saw one of the women hit the man several times. The officer noted that the three appeared to be intoxicated and weren’t paying any attention to a 6-year-old child wandering around the room.
