Police chase Boulevard Mall stabbing suspects

Niagara Gazette — AMHERST — Two loss prevention employees at the Boulevard Mall on Niagara Falls Boulevard were stabbed Sunday evening after confronting three shoplifting suspects, according to police.

"Security personnel at one of the stores noticed a black male stealing some property in a bag from the Gap," Capt. Scott Chamberlin said. "He and another security person followed the group of three outside."

The employees confronted the suspects in the parking lot, and during a struggle, one of the suspects stabbed both guards.

The incident occurred at around 5:15 p.m.

One employee sustained injuries to his neck, and the other to the side of his abdomen.

Both of the victims are loss prevention employees and do not work directly for the mall. Although they sustained serious injuries, they were not expected to be life-threatening.

One was taken to Millard Fillmore Suburban Hospital, and the other to Erie County Medical Center.

The victims' names are not being released.

The stabbing suspect is a black man about 5-foot 10 and is of medium build. The other suspects are described as a black, 4-foot-9 female with a medium build and another black female, about 5-foot-7 or 5-foot-9, also of medium build.

All three suspects are in their late teens or early 20s.

After the stabbing, police quickly tracked the suspects' getaway car, a silver or grey Nissan Versa, to a Town of Tonawanda motel, the Econo Lodge, located only about a mile away at 2000 Niagara Falls Boulevard.

Town police also reported to the motel to assist Amherst police around 5:30 p.m.

"We set up a perimeter for anyone who may have come running out," Lt. Nick Bado said. "But the suspects weren't there."

The suspects' car was then towed from the motel.

Amherst police are continuing their investigation.

"We are still in the process of trying to track them down," Chamberlin said.
