Several tips, no suspect in bank robbery

Niagara Gazette — NEWFANE — Niagara County Sheriff James Voutour said Thursday that his office got several tips concerning the bank robbery at the Bank of America on Wednesday, but there was no significant progress in locating the suspect.

A man robbed the bank at 2700 Main St. about 12:30 p.m. Wednesday and left with an undisclosed amount of money. He displayed no weapon during the holdup. He was described as a light-skinned black male, wearing a black leather jacket, a skull cap and sun glasses.

The suspect was seen walking northeast, but it is not known if he got away in a vehicle. Niagara County Sheriff’s deputies, a K-9 unit and the New York State Police searched the area.

People with information were asked to call the sheriff's office at 438-3394 or Inv. John Wick at 438-3342 and there were several calls.

"We appreciate all the tips," Voutour said.

Two deputies were working full time on the robbery Thursday.
