Niagara Gazette — Falls police say they've bagged a burglar they believe is tied to multiple break-ins in the city's North End.
Detectives and patrol officers arrested Q'Nique Moet McCrimmon, 19, 2101 Ontario Ave., early Monday afternoon, after a burglary in the 2400 block of Linwood Avenue. At the time of his arrest, McCrimmon was in possession of a 380 semi-automatic pistol.
"We had suspected him of being involved in some of the recent burglaries we've had in the North End," Detective Lt. Mike Trane said.
Officers responded to the Linwood Avenue burglary call around 11:15 a.m., and a 52-year-old man told them someone had broken into his home by kicking in a side door. The victim said three handguns and a starter pistol had been taken.
Detectives found footprints in the snow outside the home and began to track them down the alley at the rear of the house. At the same time, Officer Michael Corcoran located several witnesses who had seen a suspect cutting through backyards in the area around the time police suspected the burglary occurred.
The suspect had a description that matched McCrimmon and Corcoran began searching for him. He located him in the 2200 block of Ontario Avenue.
"(Corcoran) stopped (McCrimmon) and found that he had a gun that had been stolen from the (Linwood Avenue) home in his pocket," Trane said.
McCrimmon told Corcoran that he had "bought it from a guy at 18th and Niagara Avenue."
After questioning by detectives, McCrimmon was charged with second-degree burglary, fourth-degree grand larceny, petit larceny and criminal possession of stolen property for the Linwood Avenue burglary.
He has also been charged with second-degree burglary, fourth-degree grand larceny and fourth-degree criminal mischief in connection with a New Year's Day burglary on North Avenue and detectives say they're not done with their investigation of McCrimmon.
"We expect we are going to have enough evidence to charge him with several other burglaries before this is all said and done," Trane said.
Falls police had formed a task force, made up of patrol officers and detectives from the Criminal Investigation, Juvenile and Narcotics Investigation divisions, to look into a rash of North End burglaries that began in late December.
