Rescue workers pulled an unconscious woman from frigid water after her car crashed into a drainage ditch on Mapleton Road on Thursday night .
Dorothy L. Spencer, 83, was taken to Eastern Niagara Hospital-Lockport, after she was rescued by emergency responders.
Niagara County sheriff’s deputies said Spencer was traveling westbound in the 5400 block of Mapleton Road around 6:15 p.m. when her car veered off the north side of the roadway. The car came to rest in the north drainage ditch in about 3 feet of water, according to the sheriff’s report.
She was pulled from the vehicle by Trooper William Higgins, sheriff’s Deputy Kevin Rohde and a Wendelville fireman, as the water swirled around the front end of the car.
Spencer’s condition was not known at press time.
