• ARREST: A Falls woman was arrested on drunken driving charges. Shawna Marie Ovington, 22, 721 Willow Ave., was charged with driving while intoxicated and no license. Police said they saw Ovington driving a Toyota Camry west on Ontario Avenue near 18th Street at 3:14 a.m. Tuesday. Officers said Ovington suddenly stopped the car, parked it and approached them. Ovington told the officers that “her friend” had taken money from her and she wanted to report the incident. She also stated that she did not have a license and that she was drunk but wanted to report the incident immediately because she thought it was the right thing to do. She told officers “she did not care about being drunk” and not having a driver’s license, only that she wanted to report her missing money. Ovington failed several field sobriety tests and later registered a 0.14 percent blood alcohol level on a Breathalyzer test.

• ASSAULT: Police are looking for a suspect in connection with an assault at a restaurant in the 400 block of Main Street. A 25-year-old man told officers he got into an argument with a cook at the restaurant at 9:30 p.m. Friday and the cook threw a large metal bowl at his head.

• ARREST: A Pennsylvania man was arrested on a weapons charge. Phillip Eckstrom, 42, 850 White’s Corner Road, Columbus, Pa., was charged with third-degree criminal possession of a weapon. Eckstrom was denied entrance into Canada at the Rainbow Bridge, at 6 p.m. Tuesday after declaring his weapon to customs officers. Police said Eckstrom, who has a prior criminal conviction and an admitted history of mental illness, was in possession of a .9-mm Smith & Wesson handgun, two ammunition magazines and two boxes of .9-mm ammunition. Eckstrom told officers he purchased the gun in Georgia and did not understand why he could not carry the weapon anywhere he wanted to in the U.S.

• ROBBERY: Officers are looking for a suspect in an armed robbery in the 300 block of Pine Avenue. Three employees of a store said a man wearing a black ski mask, and possibly a bullet-proof vest, burst into the business at 9:40 a.m. Tuesday and displayed a black handgun. After taking cash from three registers, the gunman forced the employees into a back room and bound them with zip ties before fleeing.

Do you think it’s a good idea to mothball abandoned structures in the Falls rather than tear them down?

Yes. There is a lot of architectural gems in this city that should be saved.
No. Most of these buildings are in poor shape — we need to stop living in the past.
Confused. What good does it do to mothball buildings when no one’s really investing in the city?
