Gunshot at Santa's still being investigated in Lockport

LOCKPORT —

The Niagara County Sheriff's Office is still investigating the single gunshot that was fired off at the Santa Claus Christmas Cottage on Dec. 22, Sheriff James Voutour said Wednesday.

According to the report, a 30-year-old Middleport man accidentally discharged a gun inside of Santa's workshop shortly after noon that Saturday, casuing damage to the building. The cottage, which is located at the corner of East High Street and Day Road in the Town of Lockport, was evacuated when the gun went off. About 12 peopel were inside at the time of the incident.

The man drove away to drop off his family but reported back to the scene after being contacted by a deputy. There have been no charges filed but Voutour said his department is performing a followup investigation.
