Niagara Gazette — Police are investigating a series of incidents in which counterfeit bills were used at restaurants and businesses in the Town of Tonawanda.
Officers said $5, $10 and $20 bills were passed Friday and one merchant may have handed a bill back to a customer as change. During the course of the investigation, police obtained a counterfeit bill from a merchant and logged it into evidence.
Many of the bills are distinguishable by a thin white margin which appears on the back of a bill.
Two suspects are in custody and the investigation is continuing with the assistance of the U.S. Secret Service.
The serial numbers of the counterfeit bills are:
