Tonawanda man hits pedestrian on sidewalk

Niagara Gazette — A Town of Tonawanda man was arrested Saturday for driving while intoxicated after striking a pedestrian walking on a sidewalk, according to police.

Robert K. Sheehan of Huetter Avenue was arrested for second-degree assault, first-degree reckless endangerment, DWI and driving a vehicle on the sidewalk.

The incident occurred near 1160 Tonawanda Street.

According to the police report, the pedestrian suffered a broken leg and told police Sheehan intentionally attempted to hit him. Sheehan, however, said the incident was accidental.

Sheehan was visibly intoxicated, according to police.

An investigation revealed the victim is dating Sheehan's female neighbor who periodically takes care of Sheehan. According to the neighbor, Sheehan decided he did not like her boyfriend and could have purposely drove on the sidewalk to hit her boyfriend.

Paramedics reported to the scene to treat the victim.

Sheehan was issued two vehicle and traffic summons.
