Man caught with children’s’ bikes

Falls police were called to the 1000 block of Cleveland Avenue after a resident spotted a man walking out of a vacant home’s garage with a pink child’s bike.

Found behind a garage a short distance away, the man was identified as Lanness C. Santana, 53, 1967 Niagara St., Apt. 27. In addition to the pink bike, police said he had two other children’s’ bikes with him.

He was charged with third-degree burglary, petit larceny and possession of burglary tools, the report said.



Apartment burglarized while tenant sleeps

A 21-year-old Buffalo Avenue woman told police that sometime Tuesday night while she was sleeping someone entered her first-floor apartment and took several items. A lock on the door may have been left unlocked, the report said.

Items taken include $600 in casino chips, a digital camera, a $300 gold necklace and $50 gold earrings.

The woman said an upstairs tenant had also been burglarized recently.

• ASSAULT: Derek J. Jeffords, 29, 446 15th St., was charged with third-degree assault about 2:30 p.m. Wednesday, according to city police. A Fifth Street man told police Jeffords, a former tenant at the home, came over to check for mail and became irate when he couldn’t find a money order that had been sent to him. Jeffords eventually punched the Fifth Street man in the face and left. Police picked him up at this residence.

• ASSAULT: A 31-year-old city man told police he was jumped by four men about 11:15 a.m. Wednesday while walking on Elmwood Avenue near 19th Street. The man said he was punched in the face and pushed to the ground. One of the men reached in his pocket and took $350 and a cell phone. The man was able to walk to Niagara Falls Memorial Medical Center for treatment.

• SHOPLIFTING: Jenna M. Zsebehazy, 18, 243 Washburn St., Lockport, was charged with petit larceny about 3:30 p.m. Wednesday, according to Falls police. Staff at a drug store on the 1000 block of Portage Road told police they saw Zsebehazy take nail glue and two packages of fake nails and put them in her shirt and hoodie. In total, the items were worth about $19.16, the report said.
