Narcotics officers nab suspect with crack stash

A Niagara Falls woman was arrested Thursday night after narcotics detectives and Roving Anti-Crime Unit officers caught her with $15,000 worth of crack cocaine.

Chiaka Gabby, 19, 4600 Hyde Park Blvd., Apt. 3, was charged with first-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance.

Detectives John Faso, Tom Rodriguez and RAC Officer Joe Palermo confronted Gabby at a Laundromat at Hyde Park Boulevard and Ontario Avenue during the course of an ongoing investigation. They recovered 9 ounces of crack that was hidden in a laundry basket.

Detectives said the crack had a street value of $15,000.

Gabby reportedly has a previous drug arrest involving the trafficking of 9 pounds of pot over the Rainbow Bridge.

Detectives declined to discuss anything else relating to the arrest, citing the nature of their ongoing investigation.

• ARREST: A North Tonawanda man was arrested on a drug charge. Arthur Maedl, 34, 1689 Linden Ave., North Tonawanda, was charged with seventh-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance. Maedl had a small quantity of cocaine and $1,500 in his possession when he was stopped by police in the 2400 block of Niagara Street on Thursday afternoon.

• THEFT: Police are investigating a theft from an apartment in the 2900 block of 22nd Street. A 32-year-old man told officers sometime between 6 p.m. Oct. 30 and 6 a.m. Oct. 31 someone took a quantity of gold-plated jewelry from a dresser in his bedroom. The victim told police he had just gotten the jewelry back from a pawn shop. He also told officers “during the time period he did have several untrustworthy people in his house, but he did not want to provide names.”

• THEFT: Officers are looking into a car break-in in the 2700 block of Monroe Avenue. A 30-year-old man told police sometime between 11 p.m. Wednesday and 7:30 a.m. Thursday someone broke into his 1998 Cadillac Seville by smashing a driver’s-side rear window. The victim said a CD player, a CD changer, a laptop computer, an iPod and the car’s heater were taken.
