Robbery reported at downtown hotel

Niagara Falls police are investigating a robbery Wednesday morning at the Rodeway Inn, 492 Main St. An employee of the hotel told officers two men, one wearing a mask, came inside and demanded money.

After struggling with one of the suspects, the employee said he went outside for his protection at which point the masked man removed the hotel’s cash box from behind the desk and fled the scene. The two suspects were last seen in the 500 block of Third Street.

The cash box contained $200 and the master key to the Rodeway Inn.

• CHARGED: Ennis E. Ruffin, 36, 416 24th St., was charged with seventh-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance and aggravated unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle at 9:46 a.m. Wednesday. He was pulled over near 24th Street and Orleans Avenue for driving without a seat belt. Police found small chunks of crack cocaine inside the vehicle. A background check also showed Ruffin had a revoked driver’s license.

• THEFT: The owner of a home in the 400 block of Seventh Street told police Wednesday someone kicked in the door of the property and removed the furnace and copper pipes. The theft is believed to have occurred around Nov. 27. Loss and damages were estimated at $1,600.

• THEFT: A 17th Street man told police someone stole a 180-gallon troth belonging to him that was being stored inside the Niagara Falls Bocce Building at 911 Robbins Ave. The theft occurred between Dec. 3-8. The value of the troth was estimated at $200.
