Man sought in child shooting surrenders

Niagara Gazette — The search for the man wanted in the November shooting of a 2-year-old child came to an end Wednesday morning.

“He apparently showed up at his lawyer’s office today and they called us and said he was ready to turn himself in. So we sent a detective to pick him up,” said Det. Lt. Michael Trane.

Willie Scott Jr., had been sought by police for the Nov. 27 shooting that left a 2-year-old child injured.

Scott, 32, was arrested, and arraigned Wednesday morning. He was wanted on a warrant for charges of first-degree assault and second-degree criminal use of a firearm.

Police say Scott, who is also known as “Boo” and “Tony,” is the suspected gunman who shot at a man in a vehicle at Hometown Market on Pierce Avenue on Nov. 27, striking the two-year-old girl who was sitting in the backseat.

After being identified as a suspect in the days after the shooting, Trane said efforts had been made to try to get Scott to surrender.

“He knew he was wanted and his lawyer had said he’d turn himself in,” Trane said.

Scott was also wanted on outstanding warrants unrelated to this incident including fifth-degree unlawful possession of marijuana and third-degree aggravated unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle.

He is being held in the Niagara County Jail without bail.
