Arrested mom left baby at home

A 3-month-old baby girl was removed from a Locust Street home early Sunday morning after her mother was arrested during a traffic stop.

Lockport police said Carly L. A passenger in the car, Shavale T. Ewing, 22, 180 Lincoln Ave., Rochester, was charged with criminal possession of a hypodermic needle and fifth-degree possession of a controlled substance.

During the traffic stop, police found a syringe containing a clear liquid, two more syringes in the center console and a knife with black residue on the blade. While booking, police found an off-white rocky substance in a baggie located in Ewing’s rectum. It field-tested positive for cocaine.

During the booking process, Haseley said she had a 3-month-old daughter at home with the baby’s father. She told police Card was a heroin addict, was intoxicated and alone with the child, the report said.

When police arrived at the home, police found several hypodermic needles in plain view in the apartment, some containing heroin residue. Michael L Card, 27, 224 Locust St., was arrested and charged with criminal possession of a hypodermic needle, seventh-degree possession of a controlled substance and endangering the welfare of a child.

The baby was turned over her grandparents and Children’s Protective Service was contacted. Further charges are pending.

Do you agree with District Attorney Michael Violante’s decision to grant a plea deal to Sara Donovan, 23, the daughter of a North Tonawanda councilwoman, allowing her to avoid a DWI charge?

Yes. I believe the district attorney was acting in the “interest of justice” in agreeing to the plea deal.
No. Connect the dots — this decision was all about politics.
Don’t care. Aren’t plea deals offered to those charged with a crime all the time?
