Woman, cats rescued from burning home
Niagara Falls Police officers helped a woman and her four cats from a burning home Monday morning.
Officers said they saw smoke coming from a window at a home in the 400 block of 24th Street at 9:58 a.m. Monday. Officers approached the house and began banging on the door in an effort to alert any residents of the fire.
A 47-year-old woman who lives in the home said she was sitting on the couch and had no idea her house was on fire until police officers began banging. She then noticed flames and smelled smoke and officers assisted her and her four kittens out of the building.
Niagara Falls Fire Department engines three, four, seven and eight, along with trucks one and two responded to the scene.
The Niagara Falls Fire Department said they are still investigating the fire but preliminary signs point to an electrical fire, however, smoking has not been ruled out.
Damage is set at $10,000 to the property and $3,000 to the contents.
