Man drowns off of Olcott Harbor

OLCOTT — A 37-year-old Rochester man drowned Thursday afternoon in Lake Ontario, just off Olcott Harbor.

The man was fishing with two friends, when he decided to go swimming off the boat about 3 p.m., according to the Niagara County Sheriff’s Office.

He quickly had difficulty swimming in the water, and one of the other two men jumped from the boat to rescue him. Upon bringing him back on board the 22-foot boat, the man’s friends began CPR and rushed him back to the harbor.

Once back on shore, fire personnel took over the resuscitation efforts, but to no avail as the man was pronounced dead at the scene.

The victim’s name is not yet being released, pending notification of the family, the sheriff’s office said.
