CHEERS
• LETTER LADY: Kudos to Falls resident Jan DiFranco who not only didn’t fall for recent mail scam but made sure to let everyone else in on it. The letter contained news that she had won $125,000 and needed to cash a $3,980 check to “assist you in paying the necessary government applicable taxes on your winning.” DiFranco saw through it and now wants all to know about it. If you suspect you have received a fraudulent letter and/or check, can contact the United States Postal Service Web site at postalinspectorsusps.gov or call 877-USMAIL5 (877-876-2455).
• PARK WORK: We know there is great concern among Cayuga Island residents about any work set to take place at Jayne Park so it was good to hear city officials will do all they can to make them aware of any new development. At the City Council’s recommendation, City Planner Tom DeSantis indicated his office could send letter to residents before the next meeting, which has not been scheduled yet. The city received a state grant of $290,000 to support an update of the park’s 2001 master plan which calls for various changes, including the addition of comfort stations, a canoe launch and parking areas. The project has created a bit of a stir as some residents have expressed concern the proposal is being done without their input and to the detriment of the surrounding neighborhood and the park itself. You’ve got the city’s ear now, make the most of it.
• NEW FLIGHT: The Niagara Frontier Transportation Authority’s Board of Commissioners on Monday approved a deal with Rainbow Tour & Reception Inc. The company, which has an office on Third Street, plans to offer daily service between Newark, N.J., and Niagara Falls International Airport beginning on Memorial Day. It’s another step in the right direction for the new-look airport.
• VINCENZA COLUCCI: Cheers to the Falls resident who turned 107 this past Saturday. As far as we know she’s the oldest living woman in Niagara County. How’d she do it? Daughter-in-law Kay Colucci described Vincenza as a very spiritual and devout woman who has made it to 107 as a result of her great inner strength and the good care and plentiful visits from her family. Family members report Vincenza is still going strong to this day.

EDITORIAL: Time to take action on SPCA
Although the dust still has to settle around the horrific complaints by a former employee of the Niagara County SPCA and others, we were discouraged to learn that the animal shelter is still struggling with a lack of leadership.

EDITORIAL: The bus stops here — and let's keep it that way
The NFTA’s proposed cuts to local bus routes have the potential to really hurt the little guy, the rider who relies on the bus to get to work, to shop, to get to the doctor’s.
It just shouldn’t happen. - More Editorials Headlines
