Doug’s Famous, a hoagie and sub shop specializing in cheesesteak hoagies, has expanded into a new location at 2701 Pine Ave.
The family business now offers a large dining area, a game room with pool tables, a dance floor and eventually will have a full service bar, according to owner Doug Vanwormer.
Doug’s Famous, which started two years ago on Pine Avenue, returned to that street recently after being opened for a time on Ontario near Hyde Park.
The new facility has seating for 100 and Vanwormer plans to offer regular entertainment along with the full service bar.
“It’s going to be a really, really great place to bring your family,” he said.
Vanwormer should know about family. He says he could not have prospered in his business without the help of his sister, Frankie Vanwormer, who has been with him since he opened Doug’s Famous at the original location on Pine Avenue two years ago.
His mother, Michele Noblin, has also joined the business full-time since the expansion to the new location.
The business is noted for it’s classic hoagie, Noblin said.
“We always toast the roll and we always chop the steak,” she noted. “A lot of places don’t do that.”
Other specialties include The Crazy Sister, named after Vanwormer’s sister Meagan, with grilled chicken, pepperoni, bacon, fried onions and peppers. There are 35 different hoagie and other sandwich offerings including breakfast subs such as the Eggs Benedict Arnold with steak, eggs and American cheese. Doug’s famous also offers wraps and strombolies.
“My hopes and dreams are for this to become a landmark in Niagara Falls,” he said.
“Things have gone really well,” he said. “I just think it’s going to keep getting better and better.”
