LETTER: Setting record straight on Youngstown Presbyterian Church

LEWISTON — I find myself so enraged by an article in the April 28 issue of a tabloid I prefer not to name that I must set straight one of the false accusations contained in it.

I have been the assistant treasurer of the Youngstown Presbyterian Church for more than seven years and have been an elder of the church for more than 30 years. As assistant treasurer, one of my responsibilities is to track and report sources of donations and income to the church. I can state categorically, that at no time has any money come to the church from any source in any way associated with the Lewiston-Porter School District, or from any organization associated in any way with the Lewiston-Porter School District. More specifically, our Kids Count program which provides child care before and after-school hours is totally funded by fees charged to parents and supplemented by donations from our congregation and from fundraising events. We have never applied for nor received any grants from ANY outside organization. The same holds true for the addition of our Fellowship Hall which was, and is funded by a mortgage and donations from members of our congregation.

Please know that I along with many others in our community sincerely hope that the publishers of this tabloid will come to their senses and stop spreading their hateful and destructive articles in our peaceful and positive community.

I am sorry to have to write this letter. However, lies, distortions, and vile falsehoods cannot go unchallenged. So I feel compelled to fight back against the most recent lie — the completely false accusations that the Niagara Falls Democratic Committee and I are racist.

  • LETTERS: Rough roads tell tale of Falls This letter is in response to the rumor that Mayor Paul Dyster plans to run for Congresswoman Louise Slaughter’s congressional seat. He has not done anything to show that he is worthy of Slaughter’s congressional seat. He can’t even oversee his Public Works’ division, as evidenced by the deplorable condition and the job not done on our roads.
