Village of Lewiston Mayor William E. Geiben announced his candidacy for a full four-year term Friday, after serving as mayor since he was appointed to the position in October.
Geiben, 66, who first came onto the board in 2000, as a trustee, was appointed to succeed longtime mayor Richard F. Soluri on Oct. 31.
“I accepted the appointment with humility and optimism,” he said. “I can say that the foundation of 40 years of community service and a career in education has prepared me for the challenge.”
Geiben, a 40-year village resident, has served as a Town of Lewiston councilman for six years and deputy supervisor for two years during the ’80s. He also served on the Lewiston Village/Town Recreation Commission and as chairman of the Town of Lewiston Planning Commission.
Geiben resides in the village with his wife, Rita. Together, they have four grown children and four grandchildren.
“I am proud of the accomplishments of the Lewiston Village Board led by Mayor Richard Soluri, and I am looking forward to the opportunity to continue to promote the pride and enthusiasm that makes Lewiston a wonderful place,” Geiben said.
After retiring from the Lewiston-Porter school system, Geiben worked at Niagara University as a field supervisor. He has volunteered for the Red Cross of Niagara, Lewiston-Porter Community Ambassador and the Niagara Falls Little Theater. He is a lifetime member of the Historical Association of Lewiston and the Friends of the Lewiston library.
“Working together with paid staff and volunteers, we can maintain services and enhance our quality of life,” Geiben said. “As mayor, I welcome input from the village residents and any resident who has an issue, concern or suggestion can call the Village Hall (754-8271) for an appointment.”
Geiben and Trustee Terry C. Collesano both Republicans have announced their candidacy for mayor as of Friday. The Village of Lewiston Republicans will meet April 27 to nominate their candidates for the June 15 election.
