Eight former Buffalo Sabres will trade ice skates for basketball shoes as they take the court at Niagara-Wheatfield High School on Thursday to raise money and awareness for Kids Escaping Drugs.
For the third time in six years, the former hockey stars will match-up up against a group of Niagara-Wheatfield faculty in what is viewed as a no-lose situation.
“It doesn’t matter who wins or losses,” N-W teacher Kevin Shucker said. “We are getting together, having some fun and it’s all for a good cause.”
Thursday night’s events begin at 7 p.m. in the high school gym and include autograph signing, Chinese auction, half-time activities, DJ and concession stand. Tickets are $6 pre-sale or $8 at the door.
Half-time activities include a shot contest and a performance from the Wheatfield Outlaws cheerleading squad.
Shucker said 100 percent of the proceeds from the Chinese auction will go to Kids Escaping Drugs, with the proceeds from the basketball game being split between the foundation and the girls and boys basketball programs.
The school has used the event in the past to benefit the American Cancer Society and a local family who lost their house to a fire.
Around 200 tickets have been sold to this point and Shucker said they are hoping for 500. For tickers, or more information, call the high school at 215-3100.
