Student artwork contributed from Lewiston-Porter High School line the walkway to a newly blessed primary care facility at Mount St. Mary’s Hospital.
Twelve Lewiston-Porter advanced placement art students have been honored with their artwork being placed on display leading to the hospital’s new facility, something that has made their teacher extremely proud.
“This is such a unique opportunity for these students,” said Lew-Port art teacher Cindy Sanchez. “For a high school student to have their work placed on permanent display is an honor.”
Sanchez said the students worked hard on the project and are appreciative of the hospital for the recognition.
The students were joined at Tuesday’s ceremony by school district officials, family and hospital representatives to help in blessing the much needed wing of the hospital. The abstract paintings will line the walkway permanently and Sanchez said the hospital has inquired about collecting more paintings from the school.
“We are going to collaborate with all the different art classes in the school, because we truly understand how great of an experience this is,” she said.
The primary care facility will be headed by Dr. Philip Sauvageu and Dr. Ivan Sabio, who currently are seeing a few dozen patients and welcoming more.
“This facility will help the growing demand for primary care physicians in the local community,” hospital spokesman Fred Caso said. “This facility will help meet that demand, while limiting patient wait time and allow us to recruit top-notch new doctor’s to the facility.”
