WHEATFIELD —
Niagara County Sheriff’s deputies were called to a River Road convenience store Saturday night for an attempted robbery.
A clerk said a man described as between 5-foot-9, 180 pounds, wearing glasses with a white jacket and baseball hat came into the store about 6 p.m. and told the clerk he had a gun.
The clerk said he didn’t display the gun but said, “I have a gun in my pocket, give me all the cash.”
Apparently not convinced, the clerk replied, “Show me the gun.” To which the suspect responded, “I’m not joking.”
The clerk then told the suspect to, “come around the counter and open the cash register” to which the suspect replied he did not know how to open the register.
The suspect then gave up, left the store and got into a light-colored minivan which drove away south on River Road.
A video of the incident was provided to police. Deputies also noted that the clerk called the store owner first and didn’t call police till 45 minutes after the attempted robbery.
