The Legislature’s county manager hiring committee is meeting Tuesday to continue its review of nine candidates for the job.
According to chairman Gerald Farnham, R-Pendleton, the committee will go over college transcripts of each of the nine to see whether the information matches up with the candidates’ self-described educational background on their resumes. The legislators also will be looking for indications the candidates meet the minimum education requirements outlined in the county law authorizing the county manager’s post, he said.
Transcript review will be held in executive session, meaning away from the public.
Farnham has not released the names of any of the nine candidates who’ve survived the committee’s vetting up to this point. The county received 27 resumes for the job that’s coming open by Nov. 30, when current County Manager Greg Lewis’ contract expires.
Among the nine, according to the Legislature Clerk’s office, five are from western New York locales: North Tonawanda, Lockport, Eggertsville, Buffalo and Varysburg, Wyoming County. The other four are from Jasper, Texas, Tacoma, Wash., Lakeland, Fla., and Alamogordo, N.M.
Farnham said he’s aiming to have the committee begin in-person interviews with each of the candidates by the end of August. These too will be held in executive session, he said.
The committee’s task is to pick top candidates for interview by the Legislature’s administration committee.
