Town of Wilson taxes will go up 2-cents per thousand in the proposed 2010 budget, marking the first time taxes have risen in the four-years Joseph Jastrzemski has served as supervisor.
A public hearing on the budget is planned for 7 p.m. Wednesday at Town Hall.
Spending is down $28,589 from the 2009 budget, according to the Jastrzemski, but expected revenue in 2010 is also down $53,717.
The proposed budget is $3,148,000, of which $1,950,675 will be raised from taxes.
The town anticipates less money from the state and less money from fees. The projected revenue is $1,966,814 compared to $2,020,531 in 2009.
“It’s a very responsible budget,” Jastrzemski said. “Nobody wants to raise taxes, but there are some things we couldn’t overcome.”
He said this in the last year the town will be paying back on accounts improperly made by the past administration of Jerry L. Dean.
The tax rate per $1,000 of assessment will go from $3.89 to $3.91.
The supervisor, highway superintendent and town board members did not take a raise. Town employees will get a 2.5 percent raise.
