A consortium of health care interests in Niagara County are joining to hold a day-long conference focusing on Postpartum Depression titled, “Addressing Symptoms of Postpartum Depression Through Comprehensive Risk Assessment and Intervention.”
The conference will be held from 8:30 a.m. - 3 p.m. in the Bisgrove Academic Complex on the campus of Niagara University. Participating sponsors include the Niagara University Department of Nursing, Mount St. Mary’s Hospital and Health Center, the Mental Health Association of Niagara County, Niagara Falls Memorial Medical Center and the Eastern Niagara Health System.
Guest speakers and topics at the conference include:
n Dr. Cindy-Lee Dennis, associate professor at the Lawrence Bloomberg Faculty of Nursing at the University of Toronto, who will discuss “Postpartum Depression Screening Using the Edinburgh Postnatal Depression Scale” and “Successfully Intervening Through Supportive Phone Contact.”
n Dr. Frances Crosby, chair of the Nursing College of Arts & Sciences at Niagara University will discuss “Identifying High Risk Behaviors Through Awareness, Support, Enhanced Listening and Referral: Creating Brief Interventions for Primary Care.”
n Honor Martin, director of Education and Staff Development at Mount St. Mary’s Hospital and Cheryl Blacklock, executive director, Mental Health Association in Niagara County, Inc. who will talk about “Mom’s Net: Developing an Action Plan in Response to Service Gaps.”
