Donated paintings and antiques will be auctioned off at a Fine Arts Auction being held at 4 p.m. Sunday at the LaSalle Yacht Club.
The auction will include a variety of items including: Chinese screens, bureaus, chairs, art and depression glass, World’s Fair memorabilia, jewelry including a 14K emerald bracelet valued at $1,800, a Shirley Temple poster, a silver tea set and much more.
“All of this art is donated so that every penny we get will be for the Community Missions,” said Don Luce, a spokesperson for the event.
“Proceeds will benefit our crisis services program and our homeless shelter,” he added, noting that the economic downtown has created a growing need for mission services.
“Because of the economy we’re getting more and more people coming to the shelter,” he said. “The other day we had 31 people in our homeless shelter and 115 in our soup kitchen.”
Statistics from the mission show a 38 percent increase of people staying at the shelter compared to the first six months of 2008.
Luce said the mission hopes to raise about $5,000 at the auction which is expected to offer about 250 items. Viewing for the items will begin at 3 p.m.
The event will also feature international appetizers including pekoras or pastry puffs from the Maharaja restaurant and hors d’ouevres from Wegmans. Goodman’s Farm Market is also contributing fruit and vegetable trays.
