Man flown to ECMC for back injury
A man was taken to Erie County Medical Center on Wednesday night for treatment after he fell at a Chestnut Ridge Road home.
The Niagara County Sheriff’s Department and the Terry’s Corners Volunteer Fire Department responded to 7312 Chestnut Ridge Road about 10:21 p.m. for a report of an injured person.
Emergency personnel found 54-year-old Tasiwoo Paapi on the ground. Paapi had reportedly fallen after a small ramp, about 1 or 2 feet high, had collapsed at the home.
Paapi suffered a back injury and was taken to ECMC by Mercy Flight as a precaution, the report said.
According to ECMC patient information, Paapi was listed in fair condition Thursday.

• THEFT: Police are investigating a van break-in in the 1900 block of Lockport Street. A 44-year-old man told officers that sometime between 10 p.m. Wednesday and 10 a.m. Thursday someone stole the front grill from his 1998 Chevy 3500 van.
• THEFT: Officers are looking into a car break-in in the 3000 block of Macklem Avenue. A 47-year-old woman told police that sometime between 3 and 8 a.m. Thursday someone broke into her car by smashing a passenger-side window. The victim said a remote for her car stereo was taken.
• THEFT: Police are investigating a truck break-in in the 900 block of Rensselaer Avenue. A 39-year-old man told officers that sometime between 2 and 9:30 a.m. Thursday, someone broke into his 2005 Ford F-350 pick-up truck by smashing the rear window, The victim said a cell phone, car stereo, DVD player, backpack and other assorted items were taken.
• THEFT: Officers are looking into a car break-in in the 2800 block of Lewiston Road. A 51-year-old man told police that sometime between 10:30 p.m. Wednesday and 8:34 a.m. Thursday someone broke into his 1990 Ford Contour by smashing a passenger-side window. The victim said the car’s stereo system was taken.
City of Lockport
• DOMESTIC: Officers responded to a domestic disturbance Tuesday morning at a North Transit Street apartment. A female resident told police her husband was angry with her because she had thrown his Christmas ribs in the garbage. The husband retaliated by throwing her Christmas pot roast in the toilet, she said. The husband and wife both refused to leave the apartment and said they would attempt to ignore each other for the rest of the day, the report said. No charges were filed.
• MARIJUANA: John C. Petty, 19, 461 E. Ferry St., upper, Buffalo, was charged Thursday morning with unlawful possession of marijuana. Officers saw a car parked at Waterman and Genesee streets, and when the patrol car approached, the car pulled away, the report said. Officers stopped the car because the driver was not wearing a seatbelt, the report said. Petty, a passenger, was allegedly carrying a plastic baggie containing marijuana. He was released on an appearance ticket and is due Jan. 8 in Lockport City Court.

• BURGLARY: A manager at Wal-Mart on South Transit Road told police Wednesday that someone stole 42 used auto batteries from the store’s battery cage. An employee confronted a white male in his 50s and a white female at the battery cage the previous evening. The suspects told the employee they were with Wal-Mart security and were checking the cages due to recent thefts. The employee went to get a manager, and when they returned, the suspects and batteries were gone, the report said. The batteries were worth $220. The suspects were driving an older green min-van. The same type of vehicle was used in previous incidents at Wal-Marts in Cheektowaga and Clarence, the report said. A similar theft also happened Dec. 21 at the Lockport store, when an employee reported the lock on the battery cage had been broken and 70 batteries had been taken.
• DOG BITE: An Ernest Road man reported Wednesday that he noticed his neighbor’s pit bull running loose in his yard. The man said he got in his car and drove two houses down to let his neighbor know the dog was loose. When he got out of his car, the dog ran toward him, and he attempted to kick it away. In the process, the dog bit him in the shin, breaking the skin. The dog owner said he was unaware the dog was running loose and that the dog had all its shots.
• LARCENY: A Willowbrook Drive man reported Thursday morning that sometime within the past few days, his 1974 Ford pickup was removed from his garage. The man and his wife believe the pickup may have been stolen by a relative. The pickup is worth $5,000, the report said.
• FRAUD: A Purdy Road woman reported Wednesday that she received two checks in the mail, each for $5,000. She said she believes the checks might be part of an Internet scam also involving E-mails she’s received.

• HARASSMENT: A Cottage Road man reported Wednesday that his friend called him several times in the evening, and during one of the calls, his friend became very angry and asked him when he would be home so that he could come over and murder him. The man said he didn’t take the threat seriously, but wanted the calls documented, the report said.
