WILSON: No tax increase in town budget

Staff Reports

The town board adopted a 2009 budget on Wednesday that calls for zero tax increase for the third straight year, according to Supervisor Joe Jastrzemski.

The tax rate is $3.89 per $1,000 of assessed value. The budget is $3.18 million, with $1.08 million to be raised by taxes. There is an estimated revenue of $2.02 million.

The budget takes $65,000 from the 2008 fund balance. That includes $20,000 from the highway fund outside the village and $45,000 from the water district.

The tax rate went down in the Sunset Island Sewer District to $599.66, a drop of $55.05.

“We’re extremely proud of our budget,” the supervisor said. “We believe it’s responsible.”

In other action:

• The board authorized the highway superintendent to apply for a shared service agreement to buy a new paving machine. Newfane, Pendleton, Royalton and Wilson are working together to get a state grant.

• The board approved two part-time laborers at $14.50 per hour to help with snow plowing.

• The board accepted the resignation of Ken Hoffman, who has moved out of town, from the planning board.
