YOUNGSTOWN – Suzanne Simon Dietz, the Porter historian and author of two other volumes about area history, has written a book that features personal recollections of Niagara Frontier residents and their roles during WorldWar II.
Her new publication, “Honor Thy Fathers & Mothers,” a 400-page paperback, will be released at a book signing Dec. 6 at Ashker’s Coffee House, 400 Main St.
The author will be present from 3 to 5 p.m. The book also will be available at The Book Corner in Niagara Falls and at DiCamillo’s, Center Street, Lewiston.
Dietz spent nearly two years researching and writing the stories that document wide-ranging experiences of those who served in the military.
It introduces some local residents who owned the farms and orchards where the German prisoners-of-war worked while they were staying at Fort Niagara. Personal accounts from those involved in the massive war efforts, at home and abroad, are included.
The book also contains more than 60 photos, plus illustrations and records of various soldiers and pilots who served overseas.
Within the past two years, Dietz also produced books on Porter and Lewiston.
