LAY OFFS: Seneca Gaming Corp. to cut 210 jobs
The struggling economy has evidently caught up with the local gaming industry.
The Seneca Gaming Corp. announced on Tuesday plans to lay off a total of 210 of the 4,800 employees who work at its casino operations in Niagara Falls, Buffalo and Salamanca. In addition, the company plans to suspend its year-end bonus program and implement salary reductions for members of its board of directors and senior management. Salaried employees earning more than $70,000 will also have their wages frozen. The corporation said it will provide severance to employees, depending on their position and levels of seniority.

Republicans sweep Albion
Republicans swept the Albion village election Tuesday with all three incumbents reclaiming their seats.
Mayor Dean Theodorakos, who received 419 votes, defeated Tracy Jennings, with 97; and trustees Eileen Banker, with 406, and Kevin Sheehan, 406, defeated James Skaggs, 96, and Sandra Walter, 115. -
Medina voters say ‘yes’ to court dissolution and Tabelski
It was a good day for the Village Party, as their three candidates for Medina Village office, Mayor Adam Tabelski and trustees Andrew Meier and Sue Squires were elected.
Tabelski beat opponent Clayton Ehrenreich 509 to 295. Incumbent Meier received 555 votes and newcomer Squires received 556; both were unopposed. Also passing, with a vote of 471 to 238, was Proposition One. As of April 4, 2011, the Village of Medina court system will now be dissolved into the towns of Ridgeway and Shelby. -
NIAGARA FALLS: Police, ATF pick up gang members
Two gang members being sought in connection with the recent rash of violence in the city were picked up Monday and Tuesday by Falls police.

HOUSING AUTHORITY: Bringing in the garbage
The Niagara Falls Housing Authority will spend $94,000 on a garbage collection system upgrade at Packard Court and Jordan Gardens.
