Niagara Gazette — Staff at the Gazette mourned the loss of one the newspaper's motor route drivers following a late Tuesday night accident in the Town of Niagara.
The longtime independent contractor had worked for the Gazette for the past 24 years.
Police say Judith Sparks, 73, drove her car off the road while she traveling on Porter Road and drove into the parking lot of a nearby restaurant where her car struck another unoccupied vehicle about 11:51 p.m.
Town of Niagara police officials said a preliminary investigation showed Sparks was slumped over the wheel of the car and appeared to be unconscious. She was taken to Mount St. Mary’s Hospital via Rural Metro ambulance where she was pronounced dead at 12:49 p.m.
Sparks, who had suffered a heart attack about three months ago, had been back delivering papers for the Gazette for about two weeks.
The crash occurred while she was on her way to start her route early Wednesday morning.
“She had been feeling good,” said Gazette Circulation Manager Susan Wadosky of Sparks, noting her commitment to her delivery route.
“She was very dedicated,” Wadosky said.
