Niagara Obama numbers mirror rest of country

NIAGARA FALLS — The Obama/Romeny vote in Niagara County was just as tight as the rest of the country — popular vote-wise anyway.

According to unofficial numbers from the Niagara County Board of Elections, President Obama captured 40,862 votes locally while Mitt Romney finished with 40,397 Tuesday night.

A breakdown by municipality hasn't been made available yet.

Nationally, Obama finished with 50 percent of the popular vote — 59,725,608 tallies on Tuesday. Romney wasn't far behind (relatively speaking) with 57,098,650 votes, 48 percent of the popular vote.

Fortunately for Obama, he captured 303 electoral votes to Romney's 206.
