WEDNESDAY: Drug arrest yields cocaine, marijuana (3:20 p.m.)
CRIME: Woman charged after officers reportedly find large amount of drugs in car.
A Tonawanda woman is facing drug charges after an early-morning arrest Wednesday.
Carol A. McNeal, 52, 21 Hale Court, Tonawanda, was charged with fifth- and seventh-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance and unlawful possession of marijuana.
Officers were issuing a parking ticket on Washburn Street about 3:10 a.m. when a car, driven by McNeal, turned onto Washburn from Oliver Street.
The car stopped suddenly in the middle of Washburn Street when an unidentified woman ran out in front of the car, the report said.
The woman reportedly yelled an obscenity and took off running when she saw police.
McNeal reportedly pulled into a driveway and attempted to turn around, but officers pulled in behind her in a patrol car.
The passenger, a man later identified as McNeal’s boyfriend, reportedly got out of the car and ran behind a house and out of sight.
McNeal reportedly started to walk away from officers, but she was stopped in front of her car.
She reportedly told police she did not know why her boyfriend ran.
Officers searched McNeal and reportedly found a plastic bag in her front coat pocket containing hydrocodone pills. She reportedly told police she did not have a prescription for them.
McNeal gave officers permission to search her car, where they found 500 milligrams of cocaine between the driver’s seat and the center console, the report said.
Officers reportedly found a black bag in the trunk containing a pipe used to smoke cocaine, a bag of marijuana and two scales. They also found $457 in McNeal’s front pocket, the report said.
McNeal was held without bail.
