'Godspell' extended by Niagara Regional Theatre Guild

Niagara Gazette — One of the most requested musicals by fans of Niagara Regional Theatre Guild, has been extended for another Sunday due to expected response.

The play, “Godspell: A Musical Based on the Gospel According to St. Matthew.” will open Friday and close March 24. 

Based on a series of parables, the play, which was made into a movie three years after it debuted off Broadway, is directed by Michael Breen of Buffalo, choreographed by Dawn Marcolini Newton of Grand Island and produced by Gary Gaffney of Amherst.

The show, which brings a joyful and spontaneous feeling to the Bible parables, with actors behaving like like comic movie characters,  features the song “Day by Day,” as well as other fan favorites, including “By My Side,” “All Good Gifts,” “Learn Your Lessons Well,” “All For the Best,” “We Beseech Thee,” “Turn Back O Man,” “By My Side,” “Alas for You,” and “Beautiful City.”

Starring from Buffalo are John Panepinto as Jesus, Dan Zerpa as John the Baptist and Judas, and Meghan Attridge as Sonia; from North Tonawanda is Jessica Dows as Robin; from Tonawanda are Chris Andreane as Jeffrey and Cassandra Grizanti as Peggy; from Amherst are Joe Fratello as Lamar and Ashley Fratello as Joanne; and, from Hamburg is Rheanna Gallego as Gilmer.

Performances are at 7:30 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays through March 23, and 3 p.m. Sundays through March 24.

Tickets are $14 pre-sale and $17 at the door. Seniors and student with ID are $15.00; Children 16 and under are $10.00.
