NIAGARA FALLS — The Niagara Arts and Cultural Center and Oakwood Cemetery Association have a somewhat unique way to celebrate Niagara Falls history and support both organizations this Saturday.

Go fly a kite — or at least learn all you can about a very significant kite flyer in the Falls, Homan Walsh.

Who’s Homan Walsh? The 16-year-old youth won a famous kite-flying contest to carry a starter line over the Niagara River needed to build the suspension bridge.

Those attending Saturday’s event will hear all about it from Homan biographer Meg Robinson-Albers. There’s even a chance to meet Homan, sort of. He actually died in 1899 but an actor protraying the famous kite flyer will be on hand.

Homan won’t be alone. Several other historic figures will also be portrayed by actors on Saturday.

Getting back to the kites for a moment, members of the Kite Museum of Southern Ontario will also be on hand giving demonstrations.

The event also features a catered picnic meal with an Italian Spumanti tasting.
