Donald J. Hansen

LEWISTON — Donald J. Hansen, age 83, of Lewiston, died, unexpectedly, at his home on Thursday January 26, 2012. Donald was born on February 2, 1928 in St. John, New Brunswick, Canada, the son of the late Raymond E. and Theresa (Maxwell) Hansen.

He graduated St. Francis of Xavier University in Nova Scotia where he received his Bachelor's and Master's Degrees in Chemistry. Donald received his Ph.D. in Chemistry from the University of Toronto. He married Maureen (Brown) Hansen on July 15, 1953 and they have resided in Lewiston the past 46 years.

A Research Chemist, Donald employed by Union Carbide in Niagara Falls, NY, for over 30 years. He was a member of St. Peter's R.C. Church in Lewiston where he served as a Eucharistic Minister, on the Parish Council, and was a member of the Holy Name Society for 30 years. Donald was a member of the Barbershop Singing Saints in St. Catharine's, Ontario. He also served as a Boy Scout leader in Lewiston. Donald enjoyed playing bridge, skiing, golfing, badminton, tennis, fishing and being with his family and friends.

In addition to his wife, Maureen, he is survived by his children, Michele (Nicholas) Ricciuti of Youngstown, Kent (Bonnie) Hansen of Panama City, FL, Paulette (Bruce) Parkhill of Pennsylvania, Renee Donovan of Lewiston, Terese Ashton of Whitby, Ontario, and Brian (Amy) Hansen of Lockport; seventeen grandchildren; two brothers, Rev. Brian Hansen and David (Doreen) Hansen; and a sister, Mary (Paschal) Chisholm, all of St. John, New Brunswick, Canada. He was predeceased by a brother, Alden Hansen.

Friends may call at HARDISON FUNERAL HOME, N. Fourth & Ridge Streets, Lewiston on Monday from 2-4 and 7-9 PM. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday, January 31st at 10:00 AM in St. Peter's R.C. Church, 600 Center St., Lewiston, with the Rev. Michael Zuffoletto officiating.
