Antonio M. "Tony" Fustes, 76, of Niagara Falls, NY, passed away, peacefully, on Tuesday, November 27, 2012, while surrounded by his loving family. Born on February 4, 1936 in Niagara Falls, NY, he was the son of the late Manuel and Edna (Santini) Fustes.
Mr. Fustes was a lifelong resident of Niagara Falls, NY. Tony, as he was known by family and friends, proudly served in the United States Army from September 16, 1954 until his honorable discharge on August 31, 1962. While serving, he was awarded the Army Occupational Medal and the Good Conduct Medal. On July 11, 1959, Mr. Fustes married the former Susanne M. Sgroi in Niagara Falls, NY. She predeceased him on September 9, 2007. For 34 years, Tony was employed as a Highway Maintenance Worker for the New York State Department of Transportation, until his retirement in 1998.
Mr. Fustes is survived by one daughter, Teresa (Stephen) Mathis of Rochester, NY; six grandchildren, Autumn (Nicholas) Corrigan, Sierra Mathis, Shane Mathis, Austin Mathis, Jennifer (Jeff) Nelson and Jessica (Chris) DeBuck, all of Rochester, NY; and seven great-grandchildren, Kyleigh, Roger, Bailee, Jett, Maverick, Kingston and Phoenix. Tony is also survived by one sister, Emma Kotlarz of Niagara Falls, NY and many nieces and nephews.
The family will be present to receive friends on Friday, November 30th from 4-7 PM in the Chapel of the OTTO REDANZ FUNERAL HOME, 2215 Military Road, Niagara Falls, NY (297-9907), where a funeral service will follow visitation at 7:00 PM concluding with military honors. Private burial will be held in North Ridge Cemetery, Cambria, NY. In lieu of flowers, memorial offerings may be made to Niagara Hospice, 4675 Sunset Drive, Lockport, NY 14094; or to the American Cancer Society, P.O. Box 22718, Oklahoma City, OK 73123-1718.
