Norbert R. "Jake" Jakubowski

BUFFALO — Norbert R. "Jake" Jakubowski, 87, of Niagara Falls, NY, passed away Wednesday, December 5, 2012, at Erie County Medical Center, Buffalo, NY. Born in Niagara Falls, NY on September 4, 1925, he was the son of the late Albert and Bernice (Mills) Jakubowski and attended local schools. On December 17, 1943, Norbert enlisted in the US Army serving in World War II. He was awarded the Purple Heart and Oak Leaf Cluster Medal and was honorably discharged as a Sergeant on January 13, 1946. He enjoyed bowling, fishing, gardening and animals. Most of all, he enjoyed spending time with family and friends.

He is survived by his sons, Edward L. and Frederick A. Jakubowski, both of Niagara Falls, NY; his brother, Henry (Lillian) Jakubowski of Batavia, NY; special companion, Antoinette Tiede of Niagara Falls, NY; also several nieces, nephews and cousins. Besides his parents, he was   predeceased by his wife, Dorothy (Wilgosz) Jakubowski and his sister, Florence (Richard) Bielaski.

Friends may call Sunday, December 9th, from 2-4 and 7-9 PM at ZAJAC FUNERAL HOME INC., 319-24th St., cor. Welch Ave., Niagara Falls, NY, where funeral services will begin at 9:30 AM on Monday, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 AM at Divine Mercy Parish, 24th and Niagara Sts., with Rev. Jacek Mazur officiating. Burial with military honors following in Holy Trinity Cemetery, Lewiston, NY. Donations in his memory may be made to a charity of one's choice.
