TOWN OF LEWISTON —
A. Gardner Rising, age 71, of the Town of Lewiston, died on Tuesday, January 31, 2012 in Mt. St. Mary's Hospital in Lewiston, after a lengthy illness. Gardner was born on June 28, 1940 in Niagara Falls, NY, the son of the late Bert A. and Dorothy (Hessinger) Rising.
After graduating from Lewiston Porter High School in 1958, he enlisted in the U.S. Navy. He completed his term of enlistment and was honorably discharged in 1961. He married Carol L. (Samplinski) Rising on October 12, 1962. Gardner was employed by Harrison Radiator Division of GM in Lockport for 30 years. He retired as a Supervisor of the Radiator Division in 1993. Gardner was a member of the 3-F Conservation Club. He also played guitar in the three-man band, "Rambunctious" from 1970 to 1983. He enjoyed fishing trips, camping, and boating, as well as his classic car and his pet dogs.
He is survived by his wife, Carol; a daughter, Rebecca L. (Chris) Chesnick of Canton, OH; a son, Chris (Josefina) Rising of Macomb, MI; his grandchildren, Kayla and Courtney Rising, Laurienne (Joe) Wolfe, Sarah and Laddie Chesnick; a great granddaughter, Celia Rose Wolfe; a sister, Deborah Williams; and a brother-in-law, Ralph Jones, both of North Tonawanda. He was predeceased by a son, Charles Gardner; and a sister, Holly Jones.
Friends may call at HARDISON FUNERAL HOME, N. Fourth & Ridge Sts., Lewiston, on Friday from 2-4 and 7 -9 PM. Funeral Services will be held Saturday, February 4th at 11:00 AM in the First Presbyterian Church of Lewiston, 505 Cayuga St., Lewiston, with the Rev. Robert Bellingham officiating. (Please assemble at church). Burial with Military Honors will follow in Dickersonville Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the 3-F Conservation Club, 904 Swann Rd., Youngstown, NY 14174.
