William M. "Billy" Saunders

TOWN OF WHEATFIELD — William M. "Billy" Saunders, of Sanborn, NY, passed away on Thursday, March 14, 2013, in the Town of Wheatfield, NY.

He was born in Lockport, NY, on November 22, 1954, the son of William A. and Doris L. (Hotchkin) Saunders of Sanborn, NY.

Bill graduated Starpoint High School and from Niagara County Community College. He was the parts manager with Gary Pools for the past 35 years.

Bill will be remembered as an avid hockey player and fan of the game. He played with the    Niagara Falls Alumni Tuesday and Sunday Night Leagues, with the Gamblers and with any pick up game. Bill often said, "If God takes me  I'd like to leave doing what I love with my skates on". He was loved by both his family and teammates.

Bill enjoyed fishing, camping, boating, canning, cooking, spending time in the outdoors and doing crossword puzzles.

In addition to his parents, he is survived by his wife of 25 years, Carole Duncan; two brothers, Terry L. (Maria) Saunders of Lakeworth, FL and Christopher (Leslie) Saunders of the Town of Cambria. He was the uncle of Nathan, Lindsey, Megan and Amanda; great-uncle of Delaney, Morgan, Kaelynn and Kendall; and his dog, Zula; also many aunts, uncles and cousins.

The family will be present on  Sunday from  2-4 & 7-9 PM, at the RHONEY FUNERAL HOME, 5893 Hoover Road, SANBORN, NY. Funeral services will be held on Monday at 10:00 AM at St. Paul's United Church of Christ - Shawnee, 3921 Mapleton Road, North Tonawanda, NY, with Rev. Ronald Lord officiating. Memorials may be made in his name to St. Paul's United Church of Christ. Interment at Wheatfield Cemetery, Town of  Wheatfield, NY.
