Howard J. "Shorty" Chamberlain

DAVENPORT, FL — Howard J. "Shorty" Chamberlain, 79, died unexpectedly Tuesday, March 12, 2013, in the Heart of Florida Hospital, Davenport, FL.

Born in Syracuse, NY on April 2, 1934 to the late Edward H. and LaAnna (MacDonald)         Chamberlain. Shorty was a graduate from the Lewiston High School in 1951, then enlisted in the US Air Force and served from 1951-1955.

Shorty was employed by AT&T Telephone Co. for over 30 years, retiring in 1989 as a Systems Technician.

Shorty was a very active member in the Lions Club in New York and in Florida and received the Robert J. Uplinger Award for distinguished service in 2008. He also was a member of the O. Leo Curtis American Legion Post #830, Ransomville, and he always volunteered his time with various community organizations. He enjoyed playing cards, gardening and NASCAR Racing.

Shorty is survived by his wife of 56 years, Elaine M. (Enney) Chamberlain; five daughters, Dorothy Wedge, Kelli Roe, Stacey (Ken) Myers, Carrie (Jim) Colosi and Cheri (John) Riley; grandchildren, Joe and Matt Wedge; Destini, Amanda, Chase and Jarod Roe; Danielle and Brandon Myers and Nicholas Harvey; six great-grandchildren; brothers, Jerry, Dick, Ken, Mike Chamberlain; a sister, June Zimmerman and many nieces, nephews and friends. He was predeceased by two brothers, Marvin and Bob Chamberlain.

Friends may call at the HARDISON FUNERAL HOME, 3648 Ransomville Rd., Ransomville, on Friday from 6-9 PM. The funeral service will be held on Saturday (March 16, 2013), at 11:30 AM from the First Presbyterian Church of Youngstown, Main and Church Sts., Youngstown, with Rev. Charles Lamb officiating. Memorials may be made to the Ransomville Vol. Fire Co. Ambulance Fund, P.O. Box 239, Ransomville, NY 14131; or the Youngstown Lions Club, P.O. Box 405, Youngstown, NY 14174.
